The new curriculum is one of the fruits of the British Council funded project “EAP100: Infrastructure Building for Degree Level Nurse Education in Cameroon” awarded to the University of East Anglia, the University of Buea, and the Higher Institute of Applied Medical Sciences Buea. This curriculum was initiated in Buea in September 2007 at a seminar attended by Nurses, Nurse Educators, Directors of Hospitals, Directors/Proprietors of Nursing Schools and General Supervisors of Hospitals around the Country.
The new curriculum was developed by Dr Gibson D’Cruz and Miss Kate Allen from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of East Anglia, UK, in collaboration with the Department of Nursing University of Buea, the Higher Institute of Applied Medical Sciences, the students currently on the Professional Masters in Nursing Education at the University of Buea, taking into consideration the recommendations made during the seminar in September 2007.
The validation ceremony was graced by Professor Peter Ndumbe, Dean of the Faculty of Health Scieneces of the University of Buea.
IAMS, the University of Buea and some other institutions shall begin implementing this new curriculum in October 2008.
The Founder and Executive President of IAMS encouraged other nursing schools to adopt and implement this new curriculum so that in the near future, we will have a new breed of Cameroonian nurses who will be well equipped to compete with their peers anywhere in the world.
